With this new year, I have decided to be more picky about the reviews I do, and will bring some of the best products on the plate for you with honest opinions. So I do hope you enjoy the journey!
Many of my favorites in the vanity bag are liquid lipsticks and I can go on and on about how lightweight they are on the lips and how long they last. Those of you who have been with me on my blog or follow me on Instagram & Facebook are well aware of my unending love for the Nouba Millebaci No. 7 liquid lipstick. Don’t believe me? You can read my Nouba Millebaci No. 7 review and also see why I nominated it as the Best Red Lipstick there is.
It doesn’t just end there. I advocate this lipstick even offline, so much so that Nouba should probably consider making me their brand ambassador! (Anybody listening?)
The Millebaci No. 7 lipstick coats your lips in an even scarlet tone, and the color does not budge for the entire day. The bold shade gets you a lot of attention, and you’ve got to trust me when I say that. I have had lingering stares, and even strangers fumbling with the lift buttons when I’ve entered the lift wearing it. (That was funny & flattering at the same time)
However, the shade can look extremely bold during the day time and if you do not want to attract unwanted attention at work, I’ve found just the right substitute for you!
The OFRA Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in Atlantic City is a great long-lasting red lipstick that is flattering to your complexion, yet not too overpowering. I have switched onto this for daily office wear and love how it lasts all day. Its creamy texture makes it easy to glide on to your lips and the fact that it takes a few seconds to dry gives you a chance to easily correct yourself in case of errors or smudges.
However, one of the things that I don’t like about this lipstick is the fact that the color is likely to smudge, and transfers easily onto cups, spoons, tissues and the likes. This is in contrast to the Millebaci lipstain, which instantly becomes a part of you and does not smudge or transfer at all (unless your lips are very wet).
Let’s have a detailed piece by piece low-down on the OFRA Cosmetics liquid lipstick, shall we?
The OFRA liquid lipstick comes in a black cardboard box with a cut-out in the center that enables you to see the shade inside. I think it is a nice touch, considering few brands actually do that. The liquid lipstick itself comes in a plastic transparent tube with a black cover and OFRA branding.
I’ve seen lesser priced drugstore brands do better packaging than OFRA, and I think it can do better than the thrifty plastic tube with a transparent sticker for branding. After all they can cost you almost $20 and they’ve created a good product to back.
While I speak about how the OFRA Liquid Lipstick can really do with a better packaging, I must mention its average applicator in the same breath. I would have liked more bristles on the applicator as the existing one tends to make your coat appear a bit uneven. Because of the applicator, the liquid lipstick takes a few strokes to get a perfect even finish on your lips.
Directions for use
Liquid lipsticks can have a drying effect on your lips and this one is no exception. Be sure to moisturize and exfoliate them before using the lipstick. To reduce the chances of smudging, make sure you line your lips first. Fill in your lips with the lip color to get an even finish. After a few seconds, place a tissue between your lips and press slightly to get rid of any excess lipstick and avoid chances of lipstick runs. And viola, you’re good to go!
The OFRA Cosmetics liquid lipstick stayed true to my lips for upto 9-10 hours, which included light eating and drinking, The color towards the center of my lips faded a bit due to the above, but it is not something I mind touching up. The formula is less drying on the lips than my Nouba lipstick, which I think is a major plus. Also, the OFRA Atlantic City liquid lipstick deserves brownie points for coming up with a wearable, everyday red that does not shout for attention. However, the lipstick does transfer quite a bit and you might want to avoid touching your lips too often.
I also received the lipsticks in Malibu and New Orleans for review. Below are the swatches. I did find New Orleans lesser pigmented of the 3, but its deep purple tone is great for the night.
The Ofra Cosmetics liquid lipsticks are among the bestsellers from the brand’s kitty and not without reason. A highly pigmented color that stays upto 10 hours at a drugstore price is a rare combination to find. The shades are wearable and suit most skin tones. However I was a bit dissatisfied with its packaging and applicator as it is certainly not something that I can flaunt. Also, if you’re one of those who cannot resist touching your lips often or wipe your face – this lipstick may cause some unsightly smudges across your face unless you’re careful.
Long Lasting: 8/10
OFRA Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks cost $19.90 and are available online on the OFRA website.
