Review: Full Body CRYO Therapy at CRYO Health

Full Body CRYO at CRYO Health

Its almost a year since I have begun blogging! Seems like yesterday, yet when I look back at the journey, I feel like I have learnt so much! Pretty much mixed feelings, yeah?

If you have missed my 10 questions interview on fellow blogger Nousheen Shirazi’s blog, you can read the Inspiration: Dubai Bloggers Arwa & Husain.

In this post, I discuss the reason I started blogging, and a few perks and pet peeves of the same.
To give you a gist, I started blogging because it gives me a chance to try different things and share my experience with others. I have always been an experimental person by nature, and Slice of Dubai is a perfect way to channelize that.

“Do one thing everyday that scares you”, a saying goes. Since going to work everyday technically doesn’t count anymore (I do that way to often to be counted as a fear), when I received an invitation to try a full body CRYO, it thought it was a good way to conquer two fears at once – 1. Fear of freezing 2. Claustrophobia.

CRYO health has branches at Dubai Ladies Club, FitRepublik as well as Abu Dhabi, whereas I visited the one at Emirates towers, Sheikh Zayed Road.

When I arrived for the CRYO therapy, I was made to fill out a detailed form to indicate any existing health or heart conditions. At the end of the form lies a disclaimer, where one signs on the fact that she will not hold the clinic responsible in case of death. “Nobody here has died yet”, says the manager. Well, that’s comforting.

Formalities later when I proceeded inside, the cool white interiors with blue lighting reminded me of an igloo somewhere on the pole. There are various treatment rooms for full body CRYO and CRYO facial, and I could occasionally hear others brrrr-ing, screaming “I’m going to die!!!”
Of course, “Nobody here has died yet.”

When inside, I was escorted to a private changing room, where I was handed over disposable underwear and shorts, mittens for the hands and thick shoes for the feet. You are supposed to be wearing only so much, and cover yourself with the robe that’s neatly hung inside the closet.

Once ready, I was taken to the treatment room where I received some basic information and instructions. CRYOtherapy is an innovative treatment where the body is briefly exposed to very cold temperatures ranging from -284°F to -356°F in order to stimulate multiple health, fitness, weight-loss, healing, and beauty benefits.

While undergoing treatment inside the cold chamber, you are advised to keep your head up, avoid touching the cold sides and continue marching and rotating to avoid numbness in your lower half of the body. The whole session lasts for about 120 seconds with liquid nitrogen induced temperatures dropping up to -140 degrees celsius towards the end.

This has probably been the longest 2 minutes of my life! By the last 20 seconds I was ready to bail out as it gets unbearably cold. When finally out of the chamber, I couldn’t feel my legs for a few seconds and had to sit down to regain sensation.

A full body CRYO is said to help you burn up to 800 calories in a single session. It boosts metabolism and cures muscle pains. As for me, I had a pain in my calf, thanks to wearing heels the previous night- which disappeared after my CRYO session. I noticed how hungry I felt post CRYO even as I had eaten a heavy breakfast before my appointment.

What strikes me about CRYO health is their attention to hygiene and professionalism. Although my stint with them lasted no more than 20 minutes – the service left a lasting impression. It was indeed quite an experience and I would surely recommend you to try it at least once!
