Dessert Date at Tony Roma’s – a Review

Tony Roma's dessert review

Few things are as difficult to curb as post dinner sugar cravings. It was one of those nights when gluttony got the better of us, and Mr. HD and I headed over to Tony Roma’s at Sheikh Zayed road to try their dessert menu.

A casual dining restaurant known for it’s steaks, Tony Roma’s offers a limited dessert menu that is enough to satisfy a sweet tooth. Given a choice between New York Cheesecake, Apple Crisp A La Mode, Chocolate Brownie Sundae and Skillet Cookie Sundae – we chose the latter two.

You have to give due credit to Tony Roma’s for its swift delivery. The staff is friendly and helpful and our desserts were served within no time.

The Skillet Cookie Sundae comprised of an over-sized chocolate chip cookie as base, topped with 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream and Hershey’s sauce.

The cookie was crumbly at first and not too sweet. The Skillet Cookie Sundae although being an innovative twist to your regular dessert, it is definitely not something you cannot make at home.

The downside of this particular Skillet Cookie Sundae was that as we dug deeper towards the center of the cookie, it grew harder and difficult to break. It finally reached a point of impossibility, and we had to abandon the dessert altogether.

However, the Chocolate Brownie Sundae was as delightful to the palate as it was to the eye. A half portion included two slabs of soft, chewy brownie topped with a single scoop of vanilla ice cream. Like the Skillet Cookie Sundae, this dish too was lovingly garnished with Hershey’s chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Absolutely delish!

Eventually, we both dug in to the Chocolate Brownie Sundae and wished we had ordered a full portion instead.

Prices:

Skillet Cookie Sundae – AED 22

Chocolate Brownie Sundae – Half: AED 20, Full: AED 35

Verdict:

While we still have to try Tony Roma’s staple steaks, the dessert menu left us tad disappointed. Though innovative, the desserts are not something you cannot make yourself (even better, perhaps), and it would help if the execution was as good as the promise.

The service however, is impeccable and fast. Especially since we had reached the restaurant well past 11pm, and the staff was still warm and smiling.
