8 days, 8 Frizz Control Products

April = Summer = Humidity = Frizz+Dryness

You don’t have to be a math genius to understand this equation. As we inevitably progress towards the hotter days in April, rising humidity levels and hours spent in air conditioned indoors can make our hair frizzy and dry.

Frizz occurs when the cuticle layer of your hair is raised, allowing moisture to pass through and swell the strands. As a result, your hair appears dry and frizzy instead of smooth and defined.

Simply put, you remember those times when you left home or salon with perfect looking hair, but by the time you reach your destination – hair appears blown away and tangled? Yes, it’s that hair I’m talking about that you despise looking at and hate to touch.

As every necessity is followed by an invention – we have several products available in the market that claim efficient frizz control. I shortlisted 7 products and tried them over 7 days to help you choose what can potentially give you great looking hair all season.

Day 1: Kerastase Masquintense

Kerastase Masquintense
Kerastase Masquintense

Kerastase Masquintense claims to provide complete and intense nutrition for dry hair. It deeply penetrates the fiber with nourishment from mid-lengths to ends. I used the Kerastase Bain Satin 1 shampoo, followed by Masquintense. Apply a quarter-size amount to wet hair (mid-lengths and ends) after shampoo and massage through. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and rinse thoroughly.

While my hair was still damp, I noticed the same frizz with lots of fly-aways. However after a few hours of use, my hair was significantly glossier, tangle-free and more manageable. They also felt beautifully smooth to touch.

What I liked:

  • Luxurious packaging
  • Leaves hair amazingly soft, shiny, tangle and frizz-free

What I did not:

  • Average fragrance
  • Directions for use not mentioned on the pack
  • Expensive

Overall Rating: 4.5/5

Day 2: Mark Hill KERAsatin Conditioner (AED 45)

Kerasatin Conditioner -Mark-HillKERAsatin conditioner contains Keratin Proteins to help strengthen hair, along with a luxurious blend of antioxidant rich ingredients to moisturize and control each strand. Being Sulphate-Free, the product claims to leave hair smoother, softer and easier to style with no frizz.

I would like to describe Mark Hill products as olfactory delights. The frizz expert KERAsatin range from Mark Hill reminds you of taking a stroll on freshly cut grass.

The KERAsatin conditioner works best if used along with the KERAsatin shampoo. This range is not the best I have tried for taming frizz, however it did leave my hair shiny and voluminous.

What I liked:

  • Sulphate free
  • Great fragrance that lasts
  • Economical

What I did not:

  • Not the best at eliminating frizz

Overall rating: 3/5

Day 3: Lush Jasmine & Henna Fluff Eaze

Lush-Jasmine-and-henna-fluff-eazeWhile we’re still talking of olfactory delights – the Jasmine & Henna Fluff Eaze from LUSH is definitely a great option to consider. This pre-shampoo mask from LUSH contains the nutritive goodness of organic jojoba, almond, Brazil nut and extra virgin coconut oil and is made for those with fluffy, frizzy, dry, or out-of-control hair.

What is most striking about this product is its strong jasmine smell with a hint of henna. I applied a generous amount of the mask on my dry locks 20 minutes before washing with Lush’s Curly Wurly Shampoo. Finished with the R&B hair moisturizer – I was left with soft, shiny and frizz free locks that looked and smelled great for days!

What I liked:

  •          Organic, natural ingredients
  •          Fragrance
  •          Free from animal testing

What I did not:

  •          The strong smell could be overpowering for some

Overall rating: 4/5

Day 4: Phytokeratine Extreme Mask

Phytokeratine extremeThe Phytokeratine Extreme Mask is a regenerative treatment for ultra-dry, brittle, and damaged hair. This melt-in formula envelops each hair fiber in nutrition, thereby increasing manageability and detangles them for smooth, lustrous strands.

I’m incurably in love with the Phytokeratine mask and recommend it to everyone with ears. I have received compliments for my hair right from their first wash and I would recommend that you invest in the entire range for best results.

What I liked:

  • Soft, shiny, frizz-free, healthy looking hair
  • Luxurious packaging
  • Mild and pleasant fragrance

What I did not:

  • Expensive

Overall rating: 5/5

Day 5: Pantene Pro-V Oil Replacement Daily Care/Classic Care

Pantene-Daily-CareA leave in conditioner from Pantene’s kitty – the Oil Replacement Daily care is to be used after washing hair and conditioning them with the Pantene range. It nourishes your hair after shower and creates a protective layer before heat styling.

I tried this product starting with a small dollop on damp hair – concentrated on the tips, slowly moving upwards on the length. Once dry, my hair felt soft, sleek, straight, manageable – and yes, absolutely frizz free!

What I liked:

  • Mild and pleasant fragrance
  • Effectively controls frizz

What I did not:

  • No natural ingredients

Overall Rating: 4/5

Day 6: Rahua Finishing Treatment

Rashua-Finishing-CreamThe Rahua Finishing Treatment is a reparative styling treatment for damaged hair. Its key ingredients include Ungurahua oil, quinoa and green tea leaf extract that give it unusual botanical smell that will be fascinating to some—and maybe too weird to others.

Best used when preceded with the Rahua shampoo and conditioner, the Finishing Treatment has a mousse-like texture and works best on those with extra-voluminous hair, who want to achieve a soft, sleek look.

What I liked:

  • Made with organic ingredients
  • Free of synthetics, parabens, sulfates and 100% vegan

What I did not:

  • Cuts volume

Overall rating: 4/5

Day 7: Sachajuan Finish Cream

Sachajuan-Finishing-CreamThe Sachajuan Finish Cream is an after wash leave-in conditioner that controls, moisturizes and creates definition. It adds shine without greasiness owing to its ocean silk technology.

What I like about the product is that it can be used on damp as well as dry hair. So, even if you notice a bit of dryness and frizz halfway through the day, a small amount applied on the ends can return the sleekness in a jiffy!

What I liked:

  • Light, pleasant fragrance
  • Corrects frizz, even when used on dry hair

What I did not:

  • May make your hair greasy if used in excess

Overall rating: 3.5/5

Day 8: Phytolisse Hair Serum

Phytolisse Hair Serum

Specifically formulated to smooth unruly curls and tame frizz, paraben-free PHYTOLISSE Serum leaves each strand instantly silky.  It is especially suitable for straight hair, to give an ultra-smooth finish.

The Phytolisse is a lightweight, mildly scented serum that spreads well on your hair strands and gets instantly absorbed. When applied to damp hair, it does make my hair look glossier and has a straightening effect post drying. However, by the end of the next day, my hair felt flatter and slightly greasy and I was tempted to wash them by next day. Hence, I would recommend this serum for its instant effects, though not for longer wear.

What I liked:

  • Mildly scented
  • Made from natural ingredients
  • Instantly transforms hair

What I did not:

  • Tends to make hair look flat and greasy in a couple of days

Overall rating: 3/5
